William J. Maloney, Jr., age 84, passed away at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 6, 1934, he was the son of the late William J. and Gertrude C. (Sheehan) Maloney. Bill was raised in Sharon, Massachusetts, attending Sharon Public Schools before graduating from Boston Trade High School in 1952. Just after graduation, Bill entered the construction field, building his first house in Sharon while completing his apprentice hours. As his career began to progress, Bill went on to build a development off of South Main Street in Sharon.
Bill met his beloved wife, Claire J. Delaney, through mutual friends. They shared their first date at Rolland in Norwood and were married on May 25, 1955 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole. The young couple initially made their home on Lake Massapoag in Sharon before settling in Walpole in 1959. While living in Walpole, Bill formed his construction company, William J. Maloney Custom Homes. He worked diligently to build homes in North Walpole on High Street and Coach Road. In addition to his construction business, Bill sold lots in North Walpole for Walsh Contracting.
Bill was a devoted member of his Walpole community. He spent many years serving as a Representative to Town Meeting (RTM) and as a member of the Planning Board. However, he was most proud of the years he spent serving on the Board of Selectmen.
In his spare time, Bill loved taking part in minstrel shows, as he loved any opportunity to sing. He was also an avid Boston Sports Fan and always cheered on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, usually while smoking one of his favorite cigars. His love for baseball carried over to the local level, as he spent years volunteering his time with the Walpole Little League Program.
Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family. He and his devoted wife Claire J. Maloney were the proud parents of eight children. William J. Maloney, III of Walpole, Edward J. “Ted” Maloney of Walpole, Patricia J. Barker of Norfolk, Karen J. Maloney of North Attleboro, Doreen J. Walsh of Norfolk, Paula J. Maloney of Wrentham, Kristine J. Maloney of Walpole, and Dennis J. Maloney of Foxboro survive them. Bill also cherished his 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Bill was also the beloved brother of Mary M. McNamara of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Diane E. LaCivita of East Walpole, Skip Maloney of New York, Mary A. Foley of Salem, New Hampshire, the late Maureen Wells, the late Daniel Maloney, the late Patricia Maloney, the late Kathleen Crosby, and the late Therese Ward. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
