William C. Griffin, age 83, passed away in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts on Thursday, June 16, 2016, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on September 7, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Ann (Dean) Griffin. Bill was raised in Norwood and attended Norwood High School. After his father's early passing, Bill, like his brothers and sisters, entered the working world to help support his family, taking a position with the A&P in Norwood.
Bill began his construction career helping to build and complete the high rises in Boston and New York. He married his wife, Marilyn Stanhope, on August 26, 1955 and together they made their home in Walpole. At this time, Bill transitioned from working on high rises to operating his own carpentry business after taking classes at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. He continued working at his trade until 1986, when he took a security position with Raytheon in their Burlington location. Bill spent 10 years with Raytheon, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed staying active, and even though he was officially retired, Bill always found a carpentry project to take on.
In 2001, Bill and Marilyn purchased their motor home and began spending 6 months every year in Holiday, Florida. With Bill at the wheel they navigated the East Coast, enjoying time spent in Maine and South Carolina in addition to their snowbird home in Florida. While constantly on the go, Bill always found time to play a round of golf with his brothers.
Beloved husband of Marilyn S. (Stanhope) Griffin.
Loving father of William Timothy Griffin and his wife Jillian of Walpole, Valerie Flaherty and her husband James of Attleboro, Denise Griffin of Westfield, Michelle Griffin of Attleboro and the late Brian Griffin.
