William J. Flanagan, age 89, passed away in the Royal Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Braintree, Massachusetts on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on January 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward and Grace (Collins) Flanagan. He was raised in Walpole and attended Walpole High School. With the escalation of World War II, William left high school to join the United States Navy in 1944. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Lawrence C. Taylor during the war, taking part in the Liberation of the Philippines, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return home from the Navy, William finished his high school education and went on to earn his Associates Degree.
William spent his career at the Kendall Company in Walpole, retiring in 1986. The same year that he retired, William married his wife Joan on December 7 in Sacred Heart Church in Waltham.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and interment will be private. Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
