Mr. William F. Coughlan age 86 died in Springfield, Massachusetts surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 31st, 2007. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of the late John J. and Nora (Fitzgerald) Coughlan. He graduated from Boston College High School when on to Cambridge High & Latin for some additional commercial courses. He spent 3 years going to Boston College at night, and 4 years earning his degree in Accounting, Business Law and Taxes at Bentley College. Mr. Coughlan entered into the United States Army and served his country during World War II as a Sergeant. He worked in Cryptography and Communications in the Army.
Upon his return home he took classes at Harvard University (State Accounting Principles) and at the University Extension : Instructor Training Comm of Mass Bureau of Personnel & Standardization.
Mr. Coughlan worked at the NY NH & H Railroad Then for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Correctional Institution Norfolk from 1949 til 1967 in the Industries Department. He was a senior clerk, principal clerk, head administrative clerk, assistant supervisor of Industries and Institution Treasurer. In 1967 he moved to Boston with the Department of Correction and remained there till his retirement Management Analyst.
He also was active in the Town of Norfolk where he had lived from 1946 till 1999, in political groups, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post, and Saint Judes Church. At the Church he was a member of the Holy Name Society, he was an usher, lector and a Eucharistic Minister. He served for over 24 years as the Town Accountant in Norfolk, from 1958 till 1982. He also served as the Treasurer and Business Manager for the Norfolk Community Federal Credit Union from 1953 till 1958.
Mr. Coughlan made time in later life to enjoy his family and took great pride and spent many hours with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Saint Jude's Church 86 Main Street Norfolk on Saturday morning, November 3rd, 2007 @ 11AM. Interment in Saint Francis Cemetery Walpole. Visiting hours are Friday afternoon from 4pm to 8pm, in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole.
