Walter Carl White, age 93, passed away peacefully in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Born in Keene, New Hampshire on July 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Carl L. and Elizabeth (Scott) White. He was raised in Keene, graduating from Keene High School with the Class of 1943. Following graduation, Walter enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He was stationed with the 448th Bombardment Group and was honorably discharged in March of 1946, after earning the rank of Private First Class.
Upon his discharge, Walter returned to his hometown of Keene, where he met his wife to be, Gloria A. Goland, while she was working as a waitress at a local restaurant. Together, Walter and Gloria attended Keene State College, earning their bachelor’s degrees, prior to their wedding on August 12, 1950. The young couple made their home together in Ipswich, Massachusetts, where Walter took a position with the public schools, teaching science, mathematics, and woodworking. He spent a short time teaching in Newton before accepting the vice principal’s position at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham in 1956. Walter moved from Ipswich to Walpole, Massachusetts after taking the position at King Philip, settling on Stone Street, where he would raise his family. He retired from King Philip in 1979, however as a man who enjoyed staying active, he found work in the logging industry, including utilizing tree climbing skills. When Walter wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed playing music on his violin and clarinet. As a long-time member of a square dance band, he loved providing hours of entertainment for the dancers to enjoy. Back at home, Walter was the true definition of a handyman. There was not a job too big or too small for him to tackle and he took great pride in the upkeep of his home and yard in Walpole. More than anything, Walter enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved, including his beloved pets.
Beloved husband of the late Gloria A. (Goland) White.
Loving father of Linda L. White and her husband, Stephen Pierce, of New Hampshire and Joan A. White of New Jersey.
