Walter J. Conway, age 90, passed away peacefully in the Blue Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, Massachusetts on Monday, October 24, 2016. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Cooke) Conway. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon his return home, Walter earned his Bachelor's Degree from Providence College.
Walter took a position as a bank examiner with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He spent some time living in Bennington, Vermont before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1978. In 1983, he retired from the FDIC after 28 years of dedicated service.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox. Walter was an active member of the Walpole Council on Aging and spent countless hours volunteering and driving other senior citizens to various appointments.
Beloved husband of the late Beatrice "Bea" (Gosselin) Conway.
Loving father of Robert Conway of Norwood.
Devoted brother of Mary Roberts.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a graveside service in the Park Lawn Cemetery, 10 South Street, Bennington, Vermont on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
