Mr. Wallace C. Duncan Sr., 87 years old, died unexpectedly at Caritas Norwood Hospital on Thursday, February 1st, 2007, after a brief illness. Born on August 1st, 1919, in New Britain, CT, he was the son of the late George A. & Alice (Cutting) Duncan. After graduating from West Haven High School in 1937, he served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corp. A 1953 graduate of Boston University, Mr. Duncan was a price analyst for the Department of Defense for over 35 years. A lifelong resident of Walpole, he adored his wife Frances, his children and grandchildren, and his many wonderful friends. In early December 2007, Wally and Fran celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their children at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod. His diverse interests included reading during every spare minute of the day, fishing and sailing at his Mattapoisett summer home, square dancing and traveling with his wife, gardening, and researching his family geneaology.
As a dedicated Mason, he was active in the Azure Lodge in Walpole and the Orient Lodge in Norwood. He was a Shriner who was passionate about his volunteer work at the Shriner's Burns Institute in Boston. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Rainbow Girls in Norwood, and a member of the Eastern Star in Norwood. He served Walpole as a town meeting representative; volunteered on multiple boards and committees at the Epiphany Episcopal Church; and was a Boy Scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 34. A wonderful ballroom dancer, he was a member of the Do-Si-Doers Square Dance Club of Walpole.
Wally was the beloved husband and best friend of Frances M. (Pascoe) Duncan, the loving father of Kathleen A. Duncan of Marstons Mills, Wallace C. (Bud) Duncan and wife Diana of Derwood, Maryland, and Elizabeth F.(Betsie) Duncan of Walpole. He was the cherished grandfather of Matthew F. Duncan, Andrea C. Duncan, both of Maryland , and Jake T. Whipple of Walpole. He was the devoted brother of Doris Duncan Kingsbury and Kenneth E. Duncan, both of CT, and the late George R. Duncan of California; brother-in-law of Barbara Pascoe Gilbert, Evelyn Pascoe, Leona Russell Pascoe, the late Harry Pascoe, the late William Kingsbury, and the loved and respected patriarch to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Celebration of his Life at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 62 Front Street Walpole on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2007 at 11 A.M., with a reception at the church following the service. Visiting hours with his family are Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the James H. Delaney and Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.
