Virginia Louise (Ginny) Joyce, age 89, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. She was born Virginia Louise Maxwell on April 5, 1931 in Hyde Park, MA to (the late) Norman F. Maxwell, Sr. and Lillian A. (Coullahan) Maxwell.
Ginny graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1948 and began a career in banking at First National Bank in Boston. In 1953, she met the love of her life, Gerard Joseph Joyce, Jr. They were married September 24, 1955 (during a hurricane). He preceded her in death on September 18, 1998.
Ginny and Jerry decided to raise their family in Walpole, MA. Their children, Cathy of Mashpee, Karen (Todd) McGee of Cotuit, MA, and Paul (Emily) of Franklin, TN, were the lights of their parents’ eyes. Ginny was blessed to have the best of the best for a son-in-law and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed the comfort, knowing that her children are happy and loved.
As the years passed, with much excitement, grandchildren were added. Lauren and Liz DiLoreto and Sam McGee of MA, as well as Jack and Lily Joyce of TN. Mom cherished being a Nana. She always said the sun rose and set on these children.
Family was always a priority in Ginny’s and Jerry’s life. They made it their mission to attend every event their children participated in. Sports, dance, gymnastics – they were regular faces in the crowd. A very social woman, Ginny adored her friends in both Walpole and Plainville. She was always up for a game of BINGO, Scrabble, Boggle, or Words with Friends. Ginny retired from her successful 29-year career in 1995. Ginny enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends via Facebook; it was a gateway for long distance reunions. Ginny lived a long life, full of love and laughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her brothers Norman F. Maxwell, Jr. on 12/27/1987 and Richard on 10/29/1973. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Ginny is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ginny’s visitation on Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 from 2 to 5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Transfiguration of Lord Parish in North Attleborough on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 10 AM and interned at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole at 12 PM.
