Thomas Michael Shields

October 15, 1944 — May 20, 2021

Thomas Michael Shields, age 76, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 in Orlando, Florida.  Born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 15, 1944, he was the son of the late Edwin J. and Mary E. (Martin) Shields.  He was raised in Richmond Heights, Missouri and graduated from Christian Brothers College High School with the Class of 1962.  He went on to attend St. Louis University before moving to Sudbury, Massachusetts in 1966, where he continued his studies at Northeastern University.  Tom's education was interrupted by his service to his country in the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving in the Reserves for several years.  While serving with the Marine Corps Reserves, Tom took a full-time position with the Norton Company's Newton office and took night classes to complete his bachelor's degree in accounting at Northeastern.

Tom married his beloved wife, Marlene R. Mastropieri, on October 10, 1970 in Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole.  The couple made their home together in Walpole in 1971, where they welcomed two sons, John and Timothy.  Tom continued his career in the business world, working for various companies, including Avon Sole and US Industries.  He went on to form a partnership, Boston Systems Office, before venturing out on his own to form Financial Systems Group.  Most recently, Tom's career brought him to D'Arrigo Bros Company in Chelsea.

Throughout his life, Tom was truly passionate about automobiles.  He owned many over the years and was meticulous about the purchase, maintenance, and any repairs the cars may have needed.  Tom spent countless hours in his driveway, washing and polishing them, to ensure a showroom finish.  Tom also enjoyed spending time on the golf course and looked forward to meeting his friends for the Walpole Men's League at Heather Hill Country Club in Plainville every week.  When he wasn't busy with his cars or playing golf, Tom enjoyed time at home, catching the Red Sox or Patriots games or enjoying some quiet time with one of his favorite books.  His true passion was spending time and traveling with his family, especially his grandchildren.  In recent years, Tom looked forward to escaping the cold and snow of New England, spending time at his winter home in Englewood, Florida.

Beloved husband of Marlene R. (Mastropieri) Shields.
Loving father of John T. Shields and his wife, Kyla, of Sanford, Florida and Timothy M. Shields and his wife, Amy-Jean, of Walpole.
Cherished grandfather of Owen, Harper, Nolan, Tucker, and Camden.
