Thomas E. Ryan

Thomas E. Ryan age 65 years died in the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 25, 2009. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on February 9, 1944; he was the son of the late Albert T. and Grace E. (Foley) Ryan. He graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1961. Mr. Ryan was a life long resident of Walpole, Massachusetts.

He was the executive chef at Durgin Park in Boston, Massachusetts for 46 years, and was famous for his Indian Pudding, his baked beans, and his chowder.

Mr. Ryan was a noted author for his cook book called Durgin Park, for which he was awarded the James Beard Award. He was also the winner of several chowder fests that took place on Boston Common.

He has been featured on the Phantom Gourmet, Good Morning America, Chronicle, and in the Yankee Magazine all for his baked beans. In addition he was featured on the Food Network for his Indian Pudding.

He was a member of the North Walpole Fish and Game Club.

Beloved husband of Patricia E. (Bolton) Ryan. Loving father of Mark T. Ryan of Walpole, James E. Ryan of Walpole, and the late Andrea L. Ryan. Cherished grandfather of 7. Brother of Ellen R. Lyons of Walpole, Marylou Sullivan of Walpole, and Susan Brissette of East Walpole. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church East Street (Route 27) at Diamond Street Walpole on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours are Friday, July 31, 2009 from 3-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment is in Saint Francis Cemetery Walpole.
