Thomas McCormack, age 90, passed away peacefully in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Saturday, August 29, 2015. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Henry T. and Mary (Sexton) McCormack. He was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He waa stationed with the 507th Port Battalion and served in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 until 1945. He was honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade in January of 1945.
After returning from the US Army, he earned a position with the Veterans Administration in Boston, working in the Charlestown Naval Shipyard and he began attending Northeastern University. While studying at Northeastern, Thomas met the love of his life, Roberta C. Duff, and they were married on August 27, 1950. They made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts before settling in Walpole in 1963.
He continued working for the United States Navy in Waltham before moving to Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. He retired from Hanscom in 1980 after many years of service as an accountant.
Thomas was very active in the local government in Walpole. He was a Representative
Town Meeting Member and was elected as a Selectman in 1978. In addition he served as
on the Finance Committee for the Town of Walpole. Thomas served as a Cub Scout Master for Troop 152 in Norwood and as an active member of Saint Timothy's Church h served as an usher and Sunday School Teacher for many years.
Beloved husband of Roberta C. (Duff) McCormack.
Loving father of Philip T. McCormack of Walpole and Neal R. McCormack and his wife Louise Haughn of Walpole.
Cherished grandfather of Colin Philip McCormack of Wrentham and Melissa and Bobby Haughn of Walpole.
All services were private at the request of the family with interment taking place in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
