Thomas Joseph (Tom Joe) Griffin, 90, of Walpole, MA (formerly of West Roxbury, MA) passed peacefully on March 16th surrounded by his loving family.
Tom Joe was born in Galway, Ireland on February 15, 1935 and emigrated to the United States in 1961. After several years in Dayton, Ohio, he moved to Boston, MA and shared an apartment with his brother, Peter, until he met and married the love of his life, Mary (Lyons) in 1971. Together, they raised 5 children in West Roxbury, in a home they shared for over 46 years, until they decided to downsize and move to a home in East Walpole, MA in 2018. Tom worked as a union carpenter in the Boston Carpenters’ Union Local 67, and after decades of work with Admiral Construction, retired in 1997.
Over the years, Tom loved tinkering around in his West Roxbury garage, fixing things and creating pieces of furniture for the house. He worked hard to provide for his family, and as a man of strong faith, he instilled high morals and values into each of his children. Tom could often be found making others laugh with his stories and quick-witted humor or singing one of his favorite Irish songs. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, but most of all, he cherished each moment with Mary. They had almost 54 years of marriage full of love and devotion, and as long as he was physically able, he made sure to bring her a cup of tea every morning. For Tom, his wife and family meant everything.
