Thomas R. Hughes age 80 years died in his Sharon, Massachusetts home on Monday, April 9, 2012. Born in Newton, Massachusetts on May 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Mary (Lyman) Hughes. He graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1949 and went on to graduate with his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California in Pennsylvania. He earned his Master's Degree from Boston Univeristy and attended Clark University and Harvard University. Mr. Hughes proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He has been a resident of Sharon for the past 50 years, moved there from Bellingham and formerly Watertown.

Mr. Hughes worked in educaion for 50 years, he taught Biology at Foxboro High School and later worked as a Guidence Counselor for the Westwood High School. He retired in 1996.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, swimming, and had a strong appreciation for the natural world. He loved being near the water and enjoyed camping for the summer at the Airline Mobile Home Park in South Dennis. He also enjoyed all types of pets.

Mr. Hughes was a strong Democrat and loved political disscusions.

Beloved husband of Anna (DiVittorio) Hughes. Loving father of Christina M.and her husband John C.Player of Wayland and Robert A. Hughes of Sharon. Cherished grandfather of Zoe Li Nan Player. Brother of Brian Hughes and Arlene Glockner both of Bellingham. Uncle of Corinne Mitrano of Bellingham, Beth Fox of Hopedale, and Erick Glockner of Bellingham grand uncle of 4.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows 45 Cottage Street Sharon on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10AM. Visiting hours are Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm at James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Milford.
