Thomas L Conroy, 98, of Norwood and longtime resident of Walpole, MA, passed away on February 22, 2017. He was born on December 27, 1918 in North Adams, MA, the son of the late Nellie and Thomas Conroy. He is predeceased by his siblings, Francis Conroy, Catherine McGary, Helen Hughes, and Edward Conroy.
Tom graduated from Natick High School in 1937. He proudly served as a Master Sargent in WW II from 1943 until 1945. He was stationed in the Solomons and Southern Philippines, serving in the US Army Signal Corps, Americal Division.
Following his years in the service, he was employed at NE Telephone Company for forty years until he retired in 1984. Tom was well versed in electrical theory and telecommunications. He also enjoyed woodworking.
He married Mary Kelley, of Arlington, MA in June 1947. They moved to Walpole, MA in 1952 and lived there until 2013 when they moved to Norwood. They enjoyed travelling with their friends. He was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Mary's Church in E. Walpole.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary (Kelley) Conroy and their three children, John (Jack) Conroy and his wife Judy of Walpole, Thomas Conroy and his wife Mary of Walpole, and daughter, Kathryn and her husband Joseph Carroll of West Barnstable, MA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Leigh Ann Lutzen and husband Bryce, Christine, Susan, David and Peter Conroy, Blake Conroy, Jack and Kevin Carroll.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Thomas' visitation on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 12 - 1 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Army Emergency Relief, https://www.aerhq.org/ or the VFW, http://www.vfw.org/
