Theodore A. "Ted" Vlahos, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016. Born in Aspropirgos, Greece on January 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Andrew and Spiridoula (Deligiannis) Vlahos. Ted spent his early years in Greece before emigrating to the United States in May of 1940, at the age of 6, settling in the South End of Boston. He spent a few years in Boston before moving to Winthrop, Massachusetts, where he graduated high school with the Class of 1952. In November of 1954, Ted enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during the Korean War. He was stationed with the Marine Detachment in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and was honorably discharged in September of 1957. Upon his discharge, he made his home in Somerville and enrolled in Boston University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in 1962. After graduation, Ted took a position with the Lybrand Ross Brothers and Montgomery public accounting firm.
Ted married his wife, Susan M. Plouffe, on November 5, 1967 in Boston. The young couple made their home together in Norwood, Massachusetts in 1968, where they welcomed their first son, James, in 1970. After settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in July of 1971, Ted and Sue welcomed their second and third sons, Gregory in 1972 and Christopher in 1973.
In the mid-1980s, Ted took the position with the Boston Symphony as the Director of Business Affairs. He retired as the Vice President of Finance from Eagle Electric Supply Company in Norwood on December 31, 1999.
Ted learned how to sail at a young age while living in Winthrop, which developed into a great passion. He was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club and the Pleasant Park Yacht Club in Winthrop and spent countless hours on the ocean competing in the International 210 Class. As an avid tennis player, Ted served as the president of the Walpole Tennis Club during the 1980s. He took great pride in the upkeep and appearance of his yard and was a "Do-It-Yourself" kind of guy. Most of all, Ted loved spending time with his family and truly treasured the time that he spent with his grandchildren.
