Stephen F. Macomber

Stephen F. Macomber, 70, died December 16, 2021, at the Rose Monaghan House in Worcester after a lengthy illness. Services will remain private. 

Mr. Macomber was born on October 16, 1951, in Boston, MA to the late Lillian (King) and the late Francis Macomber. Along with his parents and eight siblings, Stephen was raised in East Walpole, MA, graduating as a member of the class of 1969 from Walpole High School. He continued to Mass School of Art and later taught at an experimental art school within Tufts University. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, Stephen lived in the New York City region where he became immersed in the vibrant and now celebrated art scene of that era. He worked as an apprentice for renowned American artist Lowell Nesbit while continuing to express his own immense talent in the fine arts through various mediums, primarily oil painting. Stephen was also an accomplished musician, songwriter and aficionado of both music and history. Upon returning to his home state, Stephen shared most of his later life with his loving partner of many years, Jean Shaughnessy of Taunton, MA. Stephen will be remembered as a man of quick wit, demonstrated talent in the arts, a fearless conversationalist and brother, uncle, companion, and friend to many. 

He is survived by his immediate family, Linda Oberlander and Peter, of Wrentham, MA, Mary Attanasio of Torrington, CT, Brian Macomber and Joyce Lai, of Brighton, MA, the late Robert Macomber, Brad Macomber and Traci, of Franklin, MA, Judith Whitmarsh and George Hope, of Norton, MA, Frank Macomber and Helen Baker of Haverhill, MA, Thomas Macomber of Norfolk, MA, his uncle, Thomas King of Walpole, MA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Mr. Macomber requests that blood donations be made to the American Red Cross in his honor.
