Stephanie T. Bonanno

Stephanie T. (Szczesny) Bonanno, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, June 05, 2024, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, Massachusetts. Born in Kobylin, Poland on July 3, 1935, she was the daughter of Walenty and Helena (Przybylska) Szczesny. Stephanie was raised in Poland, where she received her education, before immigrating to the United States in 1967, following her brother's footsteps.

Stephanie made her new home in Boston, Massachusetts and began working for the Stride-Rite Shoes company. While working at Stride-Rite, Stephanie met the love of her life, Robert A. Bonanno. The pair were married in Saint Theresa's Church in West Roxbury, Massachusetts and began their married life together, living in West Roxbury with Robert's family.

When it came time to start a family of their own, Stephanie and Robert moved to the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston. At this time, Stephanie stepped away from her career at Stride-Rite to become a homemaker and raise her two sons. Although her children kept her busy, her house was always immaculate, even with the addition of the German Shepherds that she and Robert would breed and raise. During this time, Stephanie began to perfect the art of cooking. She learned and mastered many recipes, including some of Robert's favorite Italian dishes such as lasagna, stuffed peppers, eggplant parmesan, and chicken parmesan. Stephanie loved to share her dishes with family and friends, regularly hosting cook outs in the summer or holiday gatherings in the winter. Everyone knew that Stephanie would not let you leave her home hungry, often sending food home with her guests to ensure they had plenty for later.

In 1988, Stephanie and her family left the city behind, purchasing a home in South Walpole, Massachusetts. Now that her boys had grown, she took a position with Charwell Nursing Home in Norwood, Massachusetts. There she worked as a Nurse’s Aide, assisting the residents of Charwell with tender care and respect.

In her retirement, Stephanie enjoyed many activities. She loved to crochet, making blankets, pillow cases and throws for her home and for her family. Stephanie loved to decorate her home, looking forward to the change of the seasons and holidays as a reason to break out the trinkets and trimmings. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, making her home a winter wonderland, excited to bring a little sparkle to the dreary winter months.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoyed spending time with her family and being active in her faith. She had a wonderful marriage with her husband, who often showed his love by regularly bringing her only the absolute best, most exquisite roses that he grew for specially for her in his garden. Stephanie was proud of the men her young boys had grown into, and loved to spend time with them, during which she often insisted they eat some of the delicious home cooked meals she made. Her faith kept her steady, comforting her and offering her direction. She was a devout Catholic her entire life, and when she could not venture out to attend Mass, she would watch it on television, ensuring she heard the important sermons being shared.
