Spencer Eugene Peckham, age 91, passed away in the Southern Pines Healthcare Center in New Port Richey, Florida on Monday, January 29, 2018. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on October 16, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Mary (McColgan) Peckham. He was raised and educated in Norwood, Massachusetts, before enlisting in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater of Operations with the 492nd ORD HAM Company. Spencer was honorably discharged from the Army in October of 1946 after earning the rank of Private First Class.
Spencer married his beloved wife, Helen B. Kremer, on June 25, 1949, and together they made their home on Washington Street in East Walpole in 1954. Spencer took a position with Bird and Son and later began working at Otis Elevator. He and Helen moved to Union Street in East Walpole in 1962, where together they raised their four children, Paul, Michael, Janet, and Lynne. Spencer retired from the Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain as the head of maintenance in 1990.
After his retirement, Spencer and Helen enjoyed spending about 7 months every year in New Port Richey, Florida. Back at home in East Walpole, Spencer enjoyed spending time at the Elks Lodge in Norwood and his competitive nature drew him to play in various local softball leagues, where he won best pitcher and MVP awards. In addition, he was an excellent golfer, spending countless hours on many courses and winning various tournaments in his age group. As an avid race fan, Spencer could always be found at the local track on Saturdays.

Loving father of Paul E. Peckham and his wife Rose of Plainville, Lynne M. Peckham of East Walpole, the late Michael Peckham, and the late Janet Peckham.
Cherished grandfather of Juliette Peckham Guddat of Hicksville, New York and Jason M. Peckham of Bellingham and great grandfather of Miles, Everly, Vanessa, and Jackson.
Brother of James Peckham of Prudence, Rhode Island, Irving Peckham of North Carolina, and Walter Peckham of Wrentham.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. A Funeral Home Service will follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Disabled American Veterans (DAV), State House, Room 546, Boston, MA 02133.
