Shirley (Day) Landers, age 82, passed away in the Norwood Hospital on January 20, 2017. Born in Norwood on December 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Norman L. and Mildred H. (Shaw) Day. She was raised in Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1952. After graduation, Shirley continued her education at Bridgewater State College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1956.
Shirley took her first teaching position with the Kalamazoo, Michigan Public School System, where she taught 3rd grade. She moved back to Massachusetts about a year later, settling in Falmouth, where she taught 3rd grade in the public schools. While living in Falmouth, she welcomed her two sons, Paul Scott and Dwayne Edward Gooch and the young family settled in Islington. In the early 1960s, Shirley moved her family to Norwood and began working at a dry cleaner in Cobbs Corner. She went on to take a technician position with the Polaroid Company. Shirley married Richard J. Landers on September 24, 1983 and together they made their home in Norwood. After spending 25 years with Polaroid, Shirley retired in the early 2000s as the office manager.
She was an avid bowler and bowled regularly in the senior league at the Norwood Sports Center. Shirley also enjoyed knitting and playing whist. She had a passion for red cars and looked forward to her beach vacation in Daytona, Florida every year as well as annual trips to North Conway.

Loving mother of Dwayne Edward Gooch of Norwood and the late Paul Scott Gooch.
Sister of the late Sandra Gooch.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Shirley's Life Celebration on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.
