Shirley R. Dow

Shirley R. (Fisk) Dow, age 83, passed away peacefully in her Walpole, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on March 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian (McVicker) Fisk. She was raised on her family's chicken farm in Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School with the Class of 1952. She continued her education at Chandler Secretarial School in Boston and after graduation in 1953, she took a secretarial position with Ultrasonic in Boston.

Shirley met her husband to be, Kenneth R. Dow, Jr., on a blind date at Hampton Beach. They were married in June of 1954 and made their home together in Allston before moving to Norwood a short time later. In 1968, she and Ken settled in Walpole, Massachusetts, where Shirley took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. After her children were all enrolled in school, Shirley took a part time position with Horizon House in Dedham, but always made sure to see her children off to school and be at home waiting when they returned. Shirley later volunteered her time at the medical library at Norwood Hospital for 25 years.

Shirley loved staying active throughout her life, whether it was working, volunteering, or keeping up with her social calendar. She attended aerobics classes at the Italian American Club in Walpole three times per week and while at home, spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flowers garden and bountiful vegetable garden in her yard. Shirley was a devoted wife to her husband, Ken, and the couple loved spending time together. They enjoyed traveling to many destinations, including memorable trips to France, Alaska, Bermuda, and Canada.

Loving mother of Carol E. Simms and her husband Richard of Cumming, Georgia, Kenneth D. Dow and his wife Sherri of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Nancy M. Luce and her husband Robert of Walpole.
Cherished grandmother of Bryan, Christopher, Kevin, Lauren, Danielle, Jessica, Alisha, Melissa, and the late Eric and great grandmother of McKinley Rose.
Sister of Barbara Olson of Arvada, Colorado.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Shirley's Life Celebration on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
