Sarah Jane (Baker) Porter, age 69, passed away peacefully in the Hope Hospice McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 22, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Browning Thatcher Baker and Madeline Emerson (Sears) Baker Jerome. She was raised in Norfolk, Massachusetts and graduated from King Phillip High School in Wrentham. After graduation, Sarah took classes to earn a college certificate.
Sarah married Vern Porter on July 4, 1966, settling in Medway, MA where they raised their children James (1967), Janice (1970) & JodiRene (1971) together. Sarah as a homemaker embraced the activities of the children including serving as a BoyScout den mother. In her talent, Sarah expressed her creativity in cake decorating, baking, sewing and cross stitching. Eventually she took a position at Medway Jr. Sr. High School and extended her passion of baking to the students. Sarah also worked in Framingham at Katie Joes Bakery while continuing to educate herself in culinary classes. For more than 30 years, Sarah has been a dedicated employee at Grainger in Norwood.
In the early 1990s, Sarah met her beloved companion, Jim Kirby through mutual friends. As they both enjoyed riding motorcycles, they loved taking trips to Americade in Lake George, New York. In 1995, they settled into their home in Walpole, Massachusetts, where Sarah loved cultivating her wonderful gardens and creating quite a peaceful sanctuary for the local birds, bunnies, turkeys, chipmunks and woodchucks. As Sarah and Jim both loved nature, they became very involved with the Audubon Society and loved hiking and kayaking together. Sarah looked forward to their annual summer camping trip at Scussett Beach, where she and Jim would spend time taking in the beautiful surroundings with their family.
Over her life, Sarah had some impressive accomplishments as well; she trained for and completed the Boston Marathon as well as other local road races. Sarah also enjoyed traveling, relaxing at a beach, taking art and painting classes & creating decorative country art. At the end of the day mom could be found curled up with her much-loved kitties.

Cherished grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 4.
Devoted sister of Susan Stoddard of LaGrangeville, New York and the late Browning Kelly Baker.
Also survived by her nephew John Kenneth Stoddard, Jr. as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Sarah's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole, followed by a brief memorial service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Massachusetts Audubon Society, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773 or MSPCA/Angell, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
