Salvatore John "Sal" DeRose

Salvatore John "Sal" DeRose, age 82, passed away peacefully in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Monday, September 26, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Paul Joseph and Antoinette (Pusateri) DeRose. He was raised in Norwood and attended Norwood High School, playing various sports before graduating with the Class of 1952.

After graduation, Sal proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. While stationed in England, he went on leave to visit his family home in Belsito, Italy. It was here that he met his soon to be wife, Lina Ortale, and they were married on September 20, 1956. Sal was honorably discharged in October of 1958 and he and Lina made their home together in Norwood, where he began raising his family. As an outstanding football player, he played in a semi-professional league with the Canton Townies.

In 1968, Sal moved his young family to Walpole and as an avid sports fan, began coaching Walpole Little League Baseball. He was later the first inductee into the Walpole Little League Hall of Fame for his 25 years of dedicated service to the program. Sal was a Vice President of Operations at Putnam Investments where he worked for 15 years. From there he worked at Mail America for 10 years as a Computer Operator. He then started his own company as a third party biller. He took over operations of Norwest Check Cashing Services for 16 years before retiring in 2008.

Sal was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending Wednesdays at the Norwood Country Club playing in a league. He also enjoyed playing cards and taking trips to the local casinos.

Loving father of Joseph P. DeRose of North Attleboro, Stephen A. DeRose of Boston and Christina M. DeRose and her husband Mark Schultz of Bow, New Hampshire.
Cherished grandfather of Amy, Lacey, Andrew, Keara, John and James.
Brother of Josephine "Dolly" Parker of Norwood and the late Francis "Frank" DeRose.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
