Ruth M. Murray

Ruth M. (Trombley) Murray, age 88, passed away peacefully in her Sharon, Massachusetts home on Monday, January 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Forest Dale, Vermont on July 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Eva (Swenor) Trombley. She spent her early years in Vermont before her parents settled into their home on Shufelt Road in South Walpole. Ruth was educated in Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1946. Ruth married Russell Shufelt in 1948 and they initially made their home in South Walpole, where they welcomed their son, Keith. The young family moved to Martha's Vineyard in 1951, where they welcomed their daughter Marcia, and in 1954, they returned to South Walpole.

Ruth married Robert F. Murray on June 8, 1957 and the couple made their home in Sharon, welcoming their son, Patrick, later that year. Ruth took on the traditional role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. However, in 1972, after her children had all grown up, Ruth took a cashier's job at the Walpole Bottling Company on Route 1. After a short time, she left Walpole Bottling to take a position with BPM at the lunch counter. Once BPM was purchased by Shaw's Supermarket, she began working in the Bakery Department in the Sharon store. Ruth retired in 2004, after 30 dedicated years.

As a very spiritual person, Ruth was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Sharon and participated in the Dorcas Group. She was also a member of the Sharon Historical Society and loved spending time volunteering there. Ruth enjoyed her quiet time as well, she was an avid reader and a talented artist, who spent hours crocheting, knitting, and working with needle point designs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren.

Loving mother of Keith R. Shufelt and Karen of Sharon, Marcia J. Colbert and Mark of Norton, and Patrick J. Murray and Julie of Port Charlotte, FL.
Cherished grandmother of Tina, Clint, Robert, Gregory, Sean, Cassandra, Lauren, and Sydney and great grandmother of 12.
Sister of the late Dorothy Lindsay and Forest Swenor.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ruth's Life Celebration on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4-8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
