Rudolph Peter Nicoletti, age 95, passed away peacefully in the Charlwell House in Norwood, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Born in Berlin, New Hampshire on September 22, 1921, he was the third child of five born to Antonio and Marie (DiPuccio) Nicoletti. He graduated from Berlin High School with the Class of 1938, and quickly found work at the Brown Company in town.
After the outbreak of World War II, Rudy was called to serve his country in the United States Navy. Once he completed his basic training in Little Creek, Virginia, he was stationed aboard the USS Moormacmoon and later the USS Wyoming, and the USS Taluga. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946, after serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, taking part in the Liberation of the Philippines, and earning the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class. Upon his return home to Berlin, Rudy began working as a truck driver and delivery man for the Coca Cola Bottling Company.
In the early 1940s, Rudy met a young woman by the name of Antoinette, while he was still serving in the US Navy. Rudy and Antoinette traveled back to his hometown of Berlin, New Hampshire to visit his family and stayed there together for a month. After she returned home to Michigan, Rudy chased after her and proposed marriage. On August 31, 1946, Rudy and Antoinette were married in Detroit, honeymooning on their way back to Berlin, NH, where they made their home together. While living in New Hampshire, Antoinette and Rudy welcomed their two children, Rudy and Mary Jane.
In 1954, Rudy took a sales position with Sears Roebuck and Company and quickly moved up the ladder to Store Manager. Rudy moved his young family to Danielson, Connecticut in 1960 as he continued earning promotions within Sears, and finally settled in Norwood, Massachusetts in 1966. He retired in 1986 as the General Manager of Sears Roebuck.
Rudy and Antoinette had a long happy marriage. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, as well as Scottsdale and Sedona, Arizona. In 2016, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together.
