Roger Joseph Laliberte

December 20, 1935 — June 17, 2017

Roger Joseph Laliberte, age 81, passed away peacefully in the Norwood, Hospital on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on December 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Germain and Alice (Mandeville) Laliberte. He spent his early years in Woonsocket before settling with his family in Wrentham. Roger attended the Norfolk County Agricultural High School, where he was a member of the Live Stock Judging Team, represented the Aggie and the Bay State at the Future Farmers of America (FFA) National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri, and as a talented athlete, played in the 1953 Eastern Massachusetts Basketball Tournament at the Boston Garden, before graduating at the top of his class in 1955. After graduation, he took a job with the Aggie Dairy.

Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning the Sharpshooter Carbine and Sharpshooter Rifle Medals, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in July of 1960, after earning the rank of Specialist. As a proud Army Veteran, he joined the Wrentham American Legion Post 225 in 2009.

Upon his return home from the Army, Roger found work with the New England Teamsters Trucking, Local 653. He drove for various companies, including H.M. Gould, where he hauled shingles for Bird and Son, Clean Harbors, Montgomery Tank Lines, as well as Lorusso Corporation. Roger owned and operated his own trucking business, A&M Leasing, from the early 1980s through the early 1990s. Even after his retirement from Lorusso, he continued to use his driving skills at Van Pool.

In his spare time, Roger enjoyed playing cribbage and working on jigsaw puzzles, however he most looked forward to his yearly vacations. He and Anne enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod in the West Dennis area, as well as spending Labor Day in Emden, Maine with family and friends for the annual Labor Day Clam Bake.

Most of all, Roger was a dedicated family man, who adored spending time with his grandchildren. After his retirement, he was his grandchildren's' chauffeur, taking them to all of their activities.
