Roger Mayo Batchelder, age 92, passed away in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Born in Boston at the Faulkner Hospital on March 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Howard T. and Sara (Spear) Batchelder. He was raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp to proudly serve his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946, after earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Roger married the love of his life, Marjorie E. Lang, on December 25, 1944 in Beaufort, North Carolina. The young couple returned home to Massachusetts and settled back in Roger's hometown of Weymouth, where they welcomed their four sons. Roger found work with the New England Telephone Company in 1947, however, after the outbreak of the Korean War, Roger was recalled to duty in the Marine Corps. After rejoining his family upon his discharge, they moved to Halifax before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1965. Roger continued to elevate in rank at New England Telephone, retiring in 1987, as an engineer with 42 years of dedicated service.
As a devoted husband, Roger loved spending time with his wife, and in his retirement, he and Marjorie enjoyed traveling throughout New England together, making stops in Rhode Island as well as Maine. While at home, Roger could be found in his garden or taking on his every growing to do list. Roger loved animals and his "farm" on Lincoln Road had a horse, goat, ducks, dogs, cats, and fish over the years. However, more than anything, Roger cherished the time spent with his family.
Beloved husband of the late Marjorie E. (Lang) Batchelder.
Loving father of David and his wife Carol Batchelder of Narragansett, RI, Mark A. Batchelder, Peter and his wife Jacquelyn Batchelder all of Walpole, and the late John E. Batchelder.
