Robert C. Powers, age 85, passed away in the Norwood Hospital on Monday, August 10, 2015. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas Joseph and Irene S. (Eldridge) Powers. He graduated from Boston Technical High School with the class of 1948 and continued his education at Springfield College, before earning his MBA at Columbia College. Robert proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1956 as Specialist 3rd Class. He has been a resident of East Walpole, Massachusetts since 1965 moving from Plainville and formerly West Roxbury. After moving to East Walpole, Robert became very active in Saint Mary's Church, where he enjoyed serving as an usher.
He served as the Principal at the Blackstone Millville Regional High School and retired in 1997 after a 40 year long career in education. Robert was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and served as the treasurer for the South Shore Chapter of the Nation Ice Hockey Officials Association.
He enjoyed following both the Red Sox and the Bruins, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Ann (Raposa) Powers.
Loving father of Paul W.Powers of Plainville, Kevin R. and his wife Jane Powers of Norfolk, Erin M. Powers of East Walpole, and the late Kristin I. Powers.
Cherished grandfather of Robert and Emma.
Brother of Paul Powers of Westwood, William Powers of East Walpole and the late Thomas Powers.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Robert's Life Celebration on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 4-8 PM and Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 10:30 to 11:00 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Blackstone Millville Regional High School Scholarship Fund, c/o 175 Lincoln Street, Blackstone, MA 01504.
