Robert Stephen MacDonald

Robert Stephen MacDonald, age 70, passed away in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on May 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Stephen J. and Marion E. (Smith) MacDonald. He graduated from Catholic Memorial School with the Class of 1963 and continued his education at Boston College, graduating with the Class of 1967. After living in Norwood, Massachusetts for a brief time, he and his wife, Mary, settled in East Walpole in 1972. In 1986, Robert earned his Master's Degree in Education from Harvard University.

Robert spent his working career in higher education. He began at the Hellenic College in Brookline, before taking a position with the Boston Conservatory of Music. He retired as the Vice President of Finance at the Andover Newton Theological School in Newton in 2009.

As a devoted Catholic, Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 234 in Dedham. He was also active in his community in Walpole, serving as a former Library Trustee, volunteering his time with the Walpole Public Library Endowment Fund, and serving as a member of the Personnel Board. In his retirement, Robert enjoyed collecting stamps and volunteering at the Walpole Food Pantry.

Loving father of Laura M. Slosman and her husband Alexander of Concord, NH, Elise A. MacDonald of Woburn, and Gregory A. MacDonald of Walpole.
Brother of Jean Springham of Hull.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Robert's Life Celebration on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 4-8PM and Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9-9:30AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Catholic Memorial School, 235 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132
