Robert G. Luce, age 80, passed away in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Thursday, July 12, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 24, 1938, he was the son of the late George E. and Dorothy E. (Howell) Luce. He spent his early years in Dorchester before settling with his family in Norwood, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1956. After graduation, Bob continued his education at Boston University, earning his Bachelor's Degree with a focus on Electrical Engineering in 1960, while his father was working there as a dormitory manager. Bob went on to attend Coyne Electrical School, working diligently as an apprentice before earning his Master Electrical License and in 1965, he made his home in Walpole.
Bob worked for a short time with the Town of Norwood and Pilgrim Electrical Supply in East Walpole, before taking a position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Pittsfield and joining the Massachusetts Union. His primary job with the Commonwealth was working as a traffic control engineer, working many nights, through storms, and after car accidents to ensure the safety of the motoring public. In addition, he was responsible for overseeing the installation of new traffic signals across the state. While his career began in Pittsfield, Bob retired from the Concord area in 1988, after many years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Throughout his life, Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing many rounds of golf, occasionally sneaking onto the golf course property to pick fresh blue berries. He also enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. At his home, Bob loved cultivating and caring for his flower and vegetable gardens, always spending time on his patio to survey the most recent work he completed.
Most of all, Bob was a dedicated family man, who adored spending time with those he loved. He was a devoted son to his mother, Dorothy, always going out of his way to make sure she was well cared for. As a loving father to his three sons, he volunteered his time to coach them in the Walpole Little League Program and the Walpole Youth Hockey Program. Bob was delighted when he welcomed his grandchildren into the world and looked forward to going with them on college visits as they grew up.
Loving father of Donald B. Luce of Wrentham, Robert G. Luce, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Walpole, and David A. Luce and his wife Lisa of Wrentham.
