Robert Person Auersch

Robert Person Auersch, 78, of East Walpole, Massachusetts died July 29, 2011. He was born December 5, 1932 to the late William and Esther (Person) Auersch in Cos Cob, Connecticut. Robert was a graduate of St. Andrew Preparatory School in Delaware, where he earned nine letters in various sports. He received his degree in Political Science from the University of Virginia. Upon graduation Robert played professional baseball as a catcher for the New York Yankees' farm team, until he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army.

Robert married Lee Adele Ramsey in 1963. In 1967, they moved to East Walpole, the place they called home from then on. Bob worked as a salesman for 3M Corporation for 26 years, retiring in 1998. He coached Little League baseball in East Walpole for many years and was very active at St. Mary Catholic Church, where he and Lee were long-time members.

Robert is survived by his son Andrew M. Auersch, daughter-in-law Lorraine Auersch, and granddaughter Adele Auersch of Zionsville, Indiana. Robert's sister Wilma Hudock of Lake Worth, Florida and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death in 2004 by his wife Lee.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church 176 Washington Street East Walpole on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 9 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday evening, August 5, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole, MA 02081. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trustees of Reservations for Bird Park, 572 Essex St., Beverly, MA 01915-1530.
