Rita Natalie Altieri

Rita Natalie (McVeigh) Altieri, age 88, passed away in her Norton, Massachusetts home on Saturday, August 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred A. and Mary (McGee) McVeigh. She was raised on Train Street in Dorchester and spent a year traveling around Ireland with her mother, visiting family. Rita graduated from the Gate of Heaven High School with the Class of 1946.

Rita married her husband, Steven B. Altieri, on July 2, 1955 in Saint Ann's Church in Dorchester. Three years later, in 1958, they made their home in Sharon, where Rita, as a homemaker, raised and cared for her family. As her children grew up, she took a position as an aide in the Sharon Public Schools and later took a part time position with Sonia Jewelers at the Walpole Mall, working as a sales clerk.

Family meant everything to Rita, and as such, she always hosted the family holiday gathering. She loved traveling with the children and their family and was always available to lend a helping hand in caring for her grandchildren. In the last few years, Rita made her home with her daughter, Donna, in Norton.

Loving mother of Steven B. Altieri, Jr. and his wife Carol of North Attleboro, Donna J. Altieri of Norton, Robin A. Hartwell of Attleboro, Lisa M. Todd-Davis and her husband Cliff of Mansfield, and Thomas P. Altieri of Sharon.
Cherished grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of 6.
Sister of the late Joseph McVeigh, the late Mary "Gert" Ziniti, the late Wilfred "Bud" McVeigh, and Dorothy Doyle.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Rita's Life Celebration on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM and Friday, September 1, 2017 from 9 to 9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 59 Cottage Street, Sharon, on Friday at 10:00 AM.
