Richard D. Wheeler

Richard D. Wheeler, age 86 years, died in the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on May 26, 1927, he was the son of the late David E. and Grace (Mason) Wheeler. He graduated from North Quincy High School with the class of 1945. After graduation, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Colorado and was discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1946. Richard continued his education at Northeastern University and graduated with the class of 1952. He has been a resident of Westwood for the past 2 years moving from Walpole and Mashpee.

Richard spent his working career as a Mechanical Engineer. He retired from the Kimbal Jones Company in 1994 with 40 years of service in the industry.

Richard was a founder and coach of the Milton Youth Hockey and had previously served as the treasurer.

As an avid golfer, he was a member of Southport Country Club in Mashpee.

Beloved husband of Audrey C. (Nylen) Wheeler. Loving father of Joanne M. DeCosta and her husband Jack, Janet A. Sgalia, and James R. Wheeler and his wife Karen all of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Jessica DeCosta of Boston, Richard Sgalia, and Steven Wheeler both of Walpole. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Richard's Life Celebration on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A funeral home service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10AM. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to be made to: Norfolk Adult Day Health Center, 595 Pleasant Street, Norwood, Massachusetts 02062.
