Richard N. Sabatini left this beautiful earth on September 30, 2015. Dick was born 81 years ago in Brooklyn, NY on July 28, 1934 and was the son of Fred and Joan (Collins) Sabatini.
DIck was the cherished and loving husband of Carol (Reynolds) Sabatini, married for 53 years. He was the adored father of Richard and his wife Katie Sabatini of Longmeadow, Nancy and her husband Roger Pelissier of Wellesley and Bob and his wife Becky Sabatini of Fremont, NH. He was the devoted and PROUD grandfather of Stephanie, Leah, Adam, Luke and Ben Sabatini. He was the brother-in-law (and often partner in crime) of James Reynolds of Hicksville, NY and was the spirited uncle of Kelly and her husband Chris Fogarty of Mill Valley, CA and Kevin Reynolds of Asbury Park, NJ. Dick was a friend to many.
Dick raised his family in Walpole before moving to Wrentham 19 years ago. He was a lifetime member of the Walpole Country Club and loved the game of golf even though, like many, the perfect handicap eluded him. Dick was a dedicated and long-standing board member of the Walpole Co-operative Bank. He was a member of the Wrentham Anglers Club and happily passed his love of fishing on to his grandchildren.
His Sewanhaka High School days in Floral Park, NY were spent on baseball and football fields. His family days were spent on ski slopes and tennis courts. Dick was always up for an adventure, watching any sporting event or action packed movie.
After graduating from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. His early career days in finance took him from C.J. Devine in NY to his later career days in Boston at Merrill Lynch, E.F. Hutton and First Albany.
Dick was the ultimate BC Women's Lacrosse enthusiast and was the ever-present and energetic sideline cheerleader for his grandchildren's lacrosse, ice hockey, field hockey, soccer, baseball games and Tae Kwon Do .
Dick thought his tomato garden could rival any and thought no day was complete without black raspberry ice cream or a root beer float. Any day he could spend at the beach was a great day. Far and above his exciting travels over the years, it was life's simple pleasures that brought him much joy. Sabby certainly wasn't shy - he made friends wherever he roamed. Oh, the tales he could tell!
Dick was the kind of person everyone should strive to be - kind, compassionate, warm, funny and generous. His family will forever miss the twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes, his legendary holiday toasts, his very lengthy voice mail messages, the never-ending stories about his baseball bat cane & his trademark quotes about life (affectionately known as Sabby-isms).
Dick's life was filled with music and he never missed an opportunity or an invitation to join in on the dance floor. His life was filled with love. He would often end everyday conversations with a genuine and boisterous "I am the luckiest man alive!". Those who knew him were truly the lucky ones. Dick's family and friends were his treasures and his blessings.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dick's life at his Funeral Mass on Thursday, October 15th at 10:30 AM at Saint Mary's Church, 130 South Street in Wrentham. Memorial donations may be made to House of Possibilities, 350 Washington Street, North Easton, MA 02356. Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
