Richard William Grant, age 85, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 23, 1939, he was the son of Victor Edmund and Olga Louise Maria (Anderson) Grant. Dick was raised on Pleasant Street in East Walpole, where, as a young boy, he learned the value of hard work, mowing the lawns of his neighbors. Dick developed his work ethic but also learned how to have fun with other kids in his neighborhood. He took full advantage of living close to Bird Park, spending his days playing baseball and looking forward to the summer months when his cousin, Harry Law, came to visit. The winter months were equally busy, lacing up his skates, Dick took to Coburn's Pond, playing pickup hockey with his friends.
While attending Walpole High School, Dick took on a paper route, serving homes on Pleasant Street, Coney Street, and Pilgrim Way. In the summer months after completing his route, Dick went to Wirth Farm, helping Mr. Wirth sell his crops at the vegetable stand. Following his graduation in 1957, Dick enrolled in Northeastern University, taking classes to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering. He returned home on the weekends and summers so he could work a part-time job at Eysie's Market in South Norwood. With his bachelor's degree in hand, Dick realized that he wanted a career in business, and subsequently attended Columbia University, where he was awarded a Master's in Business Administration.
Dick's first venture into the world of business was with Corning Glass Company in Corning, New York. He went on to work for various companies as corporate controller and chief financial officer and his experience included time working overseas in London, England, Geneva, Switzerland, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. Dick's passions included studying the financial markets, investing and spending time on Cape Cod as a seasonal resident of North Chatham. After a long and successful career in accounting and finance, Dick settled in East Walpole in retirement.
