Richard A. Fitzgerald age 77 years died in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on July 31, 1935, he was the son of the late Richard S. and Clara C. (Arnold) Fitzgerald. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School with the class of 1952, he went on to graduate from Tufts University with the class of 1956. He later graduated from the New England School of Law with the class of 1966. He has been a resident of East Walpole since 1971 moving from Ashland.
Mr. Fitzgerald was an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service in the Estate and Gift Tax Department for 42 years. He retired in 2002. He also substituted at his wife's day care, Amo Et Doceo Liberi Center in East Walpole for many years. In addition, he volunteered at the Department of Children and Families as Foster Case Reviewer.
He enjoyed playing hockey and was a member of the men's league at the Blue Hills Ice Rink. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories and jokes. He also enjoyed sailing and fishing with his family.
Beloved husband of Eleanore R. (Cashen) "Lynn" Fitzgerald. Loving father of Richard E. Fitzgerald and his wife Deborah of CT, Lisa M. Fitzgerald-McKeon and her husband Scott of Walpole, and Scott P. Fitzgerald and his wife Judy of Sandwich. Cherished grandfather of Jessica, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Timothy, Thaddeus, Kelly, and Brianna. Brother of Robert Fitzgerald of Yarmouth and Claire Ricker of Bridgewater.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church 176 Washington Street East Walpole on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 9:00 AM. Visiting hours are Monday, November 19, 2012 from 4-7PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
