Raymond C. Rockwood

Raymond C. Rockwood, age 78, of Walpole, passed away on Friday, October 7 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in Norwood, Ray was a resident of Walpole all of his life. He was a 1951 graduate of Walpole High School and graduated from Brown and Sharpe in Providence, where he was trained as a tool design engineer. He was employed for 31 years as an engineer at the Foxboro Company. Ray was also a master craftsman and had his own furniture refinishing business, Rockhill Design. Ray served as a member of the school committee for the Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School, was employed by Delaney Funeral Home for the past 28 years, ands was a very active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Walpole. Ray was also was an avid golfer and walker. Son of the late Walter and Mildred Lathrop Rockwood, Ray is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary M. (O'Connor) Rockwood, a daughter Julie Rockwood Zakreski and her husband Richard of Fair Haven, N.J., and two sons, Jon W. and his wife Christina (Howard) Rockwood and Paul R. and his wife Suzanne (Betro) Rockwood, all of Walpole. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, and Katie Zakreski, and Emily, Betsy, Joe, Hannah, Bryan, Bill, Jon, Sarah, and Molly Rockwood, and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Walter and Philip Rockwood, Natalie Grenevich, and Margaret Grimley. The time spent with his family was the greatest joy of Ray's life. His intelligence, loving generosity, and wise counsel touched many lives. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole, MA. on Wednesday, October 12 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 13 at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole, MA.
