Peter J. Prevett, age 92, passed away in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Friday, March 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Dedham, Massachusetts on November 30, 1924, he was one of ten children born to the late Peter and Nuncia (Bonnano) Prevett. He was raised and educated in Dedham and after graduation, completed a year long sheet metal program at Boston Trade School. IN 1943, Peter enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II. He served in both the European-African Theater of Operations as well as the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. Peter was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Gunners Mate Third Class and a proud member of the "Shellbacks."
Upon his return home from the Navy, Peter began working in the construction field as a highly-respected builder, eventually owning and operating his own company, Peter Prevett Construction, Inc. After his retirement, he served as the assistant building inspector for the Town of Walpole.
As a lifelong early-to-bed/early riser, Peter spent decades opening the Club at the Foundry in Walpole and was always one of the first to take his laps in the pool. He took great pride in caring for his property and always made time to tend to his vegetable garden. Throughout his life, Peter found great peace walking along the ocean, especially where he had spent time in Pocasset, Massachusetts, and never passed an opportunity to go quahogging. In later years, he and Norma became snow birds, taking road trips from their home in Walpole to their winter home in Venice, Florida. They were not limited to just Venice, as they enjoyed trips to the warmer climates in his retirement. However, even when Peter was away from home, he could be found cheering on his hometown teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Above all, family reigned supreme in Peter's life. He was the Dad to the original Brady Bunch of Boardman Street in Norfolk, blending the Prevett and McElwee Families, after marrying Norma on July 7, 1972. As a devoted husband, he enjoyed golfing and lunch outings with Norma, however nothing ever compared to a wonderful home cooked meal that Norma would prepare for him. He was a gracious host to his large family for their annual Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations, and as the master cleaner-upper, would take care of all the dishes following Norma's excellent meals. In addition to the human members of Peter's family, there were also the little canine friends, that he loved throughout his life.
Peter was a man of few words, but served as a role model of love and faithfulness, who was appreciated for his frankness, practicality, integrity, and good humor. He was blessed with wonderful health, never being hospitalized until only recently for a short stay. He was able to spend the last few months at home, as was his wish, being lovingly cared for by Norma and his children.
