Paul J. Mellett

Paul J. Mellett, age 89 years, died in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 18, 1924, he was the son of the late Coleman J. and Mary C. (Lehane) Mellett. He graduated from the High School of Commerce in Boston with the class of 1941. He continued his education at both Boston University and Harvard University. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Surgical Technician with the 25th Field Hospital. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts since 1972 moving from Roslindale.

He was employed by the A.H. Robins Company, a pharmaceutical company, for 35 years as a Clincal Research Associate, retiring in 1990. Paul was a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and being proud of his Irish Heritage, he volunteered his time at the Irish Immigration Center in Boston. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and enjoyed golfing in his younger years. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Beloved husband of the late Eleanor M. (Dwyer) Mellett. Loving father of Michelle M. Madden of Pawcatuck, CT, and Paul J. Mellett, Jr. of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of David & Patrick Madden, Nichole Sun, Erin & Brian Mellett and great grandfather of Connor Sun. Brother of the late Kathleen Keough, Mary H. Regan, Barbara R. Fay, Joan M. Dillon, James P. Mellett, Rev. Robert C. Mellett, SJ, Theresa Mellett and Irene Mellett.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Paul’s Life Celebration on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 4-8 PM and Friday, April 4, 2014 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church 10 Diamond Street Walpole on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
