Patrick was born in Gort, Ireland on March 7, 1934 to parents Martin and Katherine O’Shaughnessy. He grew up on a farm in rural Galway with his six siblings. At the age of 18 he emigrated to Montreal, Canada to visit his older brother Martin. He spent the next seven years travelling across Canada. In 1960 Patrick met the love of his life Dorothy on a blind date in Vancouver. Less than a year later they were married. In his spare time he built a cabin at the summit of Grouse Mountain, which overlooked Vancouver and the harbor. Four years later, they moved to New York. In 1965 his son Kieran was born. A few years later, Patrick was hired by the American Motors Corporation.
In 1969 Patrick and Dorothy bought their beloved cottage on Thompson Lake in West Poland, Maine. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Walpole and lived there for the next 49 years. After settling in Walpole, Patrick became an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church. As a devout Catholic, Patrick joined the ranks of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1319, in Walpole, where he earned his way into the Fourth Degree. Patrick retired from American Motors Corporation (now Chrysler) in 1996. He was a well-respected employee and United Auto Workers union representative.
After retiring, Patrick and Dorothy travelled extensively. They visited much of Europe, Iceland, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. Their favorite trip was a two month excursion of New Zealand and Australia.
Patrick was very active in his community. He was a Little League coach, Scout Master in the Boy Scouts United Auto Workers member and active in the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He also donated considerable time with his wife Dorothy to the establishment of the Butterfly Garden at Adams Farm in Walpole.
In his free time, Patrick loved woodworking, gardening, camping, skiing, boating, and of course, the cottage in Maine. However, spending time with family and friends was his passion. His greatest achievement was his 60 year marriage to his beloved wife Dorothy, and the love he bestowed on his son Kieran, daughter-in-law Eleni and cherished granddaughter Erin.
Patrick will be greatly missed by his sister Bridget Feeley of New York, sister Katherine Halligan of New York, brother Gerard O’Shaughnessy of Gort, Ireland, sister Margaret O’Shaughnessy of Gort, Ireland, brother-in-law Gerard Clarebout of Swansea, Wales and his many nieces and nephews around the world. Patrick is predeceased by the late Michael O'Shaughnessy, the late Martin O'Shaughnessy, the late Molly Flynn, and the late Ann Moore.
