Patricia Denise Jacob

January 17, 1935 — May 25, 2016

Patricia Denise (Delaney) Jacob, age 81, passed away in the Deutsches Altenheim in West Roxbury on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Born at home in Boston on January 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Mary (Clarke) Delaney, who moved from Newfoundland. She was raised in Dorchester, attending the Florence Nightingale School. There she met her kindergarten friend Pat Gaughan with whom she had remained close friends until the day she passed. Pat continued her education in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High School before graduating from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston with the Class of 1952. Immediately following high school, she enrolled in the Registered Nurse Diploma Program at Boston City Hospital, graduating in 1956 as an RN. With a desire to "travel the world," Pat bought her first car and along with 2 friends made her way to Galveston, Texas where she took a nursing position and resided for 8 months. From there she traveled to San Francisco, which she absolutely loved. She lived and worked there for over a year before coming back home to Boston.

Settling back in her hometown of Dorchester, she continued her work as a nurse and began attending dances at Mosley's in Dedham regularly, where she met her husband to be, Charles Elmer Jacob, Jr. Pat and Charlie were married on June 22, 1963 at her parish St. Brendan's Church, and initially made their home in Dorchester. In 1965, Pat and Charles moved their young family to West Roxbury, where she took great pride in providing a loving home to care for her children.

After having 4 children between 1964 and 1969, Pat resumed her nursing career in 1973, taking a position at West Roxbury Nursing Home and later with the Parkwell Nursing Home in Hyde Park. She went on to earn a position at the Faulkner Hospital and in 1988 took a RN position with the Human Resource Institute in Brookline. Pat retired from HRI in 2007 after providing over 40 years of selfless service to others in need as a Registered Nurse.

As a very social person, Pat could turn a complete stranger into a new friend in just a few minutes of friendly conversation. Her social calendar was always full, as she and her husband loved finding dances to attend and having company over to play cards, including their favorite, whist. Pat, as social as she was, also enjoyed her quiet time, whether tending to her flower garden, knitting something for someone, working on a crossword, or constructing a jigsaw puzzle. As an avid reader she would also enjoy relaxing with a good book, enjoying both mysteries and historical books.

Her artistic talents could be found throughout her home in the form of clay sculptures, needlepoint and oil paintings. Throughout her life Pat had a love for all animals especially dogs and cats, and even the occasional Blue Jay. Many times friends or neighbors would bring a sick or stray animal to Pat because they knew she would know just what to do. She never turned an animal away and many of them became part of the family right up until the day she passed. More than anything, Pat loved spending time with her grandchildren, she was their biggest cheerleader in all of their various activities.

Beloved wife of the late Charles Elmer Jacob, Jr.
Loving mother of Christopher Jacob of Wrentham, Kurt Jacob of West Roxbury, Keith Jacob and his wife Kerri of Woburn, and Kirstin Kilroy and her husband Bobby of Walpole.
