Patricia A. Averi

Patricia A. (Delaney) Averi, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at her home in Wrentham, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family and her dedicated caregiver, Eileen. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 28, 1934, she was the eldest daughter of Leo and R. Grace (Myatt) Delaney. Patty was raised in East Walpole Massachusetts and graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, she worked for Bird Machine in East Walpole as an assistant to the manager.

Patty married the love of her life, Edward F. Averi, on November 17, 1956, in Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole. The couple made their married home in Walpole, and Patty took on the role of home maker while she raised her family. In 1974, after her children had grown, she returned to the workforce, taking a position with Mar-Ell Distributors. Patty was diligent, detailed, and an adept learner; skills which enabled her to grow within Mar-Ell. She retired from the national jewelry distributor and The Earring Tree retail store chain in 1994, after twenty years of service as a payroll and finance manager.

In 2003, comfortable in their retirement, Pat and Ed sold their home in Walpole and moved to their newly built home in East Walpole. Patty loved her home in East Walpole, which included personal libraries for her extensive book collection on two levels. The couple resided there until 2017 when they moved to Wrentham. Pat and Ed wanted to be prepared for the future. Knowing that living closer to their children would be beneficial, they built an in-law suite off their son-in-law Clint and daughter Angela's home.

In her free time, Patty enjoyed a variety of activities. She was a voracious reader, enjoying authors such as James Patterson and John Grisham, reading any piece of fiction she could collecting thousands of books from her favorite authors that she acquired over her years as a member of the “book of the month” club. Her love of stories helped her find connections with people wherever she went, making conversation and friendship with people from all walks of life. Patty enjoyed golfing, looking forward to tee time at the Easton Country club with her husband and friends. Thursday nights were for Bingo, and Patty never said no to a trip to Foxwoods, hoping to win big. For many years, Patty enjoyed getting together with a close group of friends every Friday night to enjoy a dinner out followed by Michigan rummy at each other’s houses. She enjoyed dancing, showcasing her jitterbug skills at many family functions. Pat and Ed also loved to travel. taking her first plane ride ever in order to visit Italy. They visited each other’s “homeland;” both Ireland, and Italy, and many other countries such as Germany, Turkey, and Greece, to name a few. Patty was also a devoted Catholic. She made many friends as a member of the Catholic Women's Club as a young woman and was a faithful member of Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole.
