Olga T. (Stoskus) Hurley, age 87, passed away in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Monday, August 15, 2016. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on December 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Ursula (Vashcalevich) Stoskus. She was raised in Lynn, where at the age of 15, Olga worked as the night manager of Hunt's Diner while members of the regular staff were serving in World War II. Olga graduated from Lynn Classical High School with the Class of 1946 and began attending Simmons School of physical therapy in Boston.
She married her husband, Thomas S. Hurley, Jr. on December 8, 1950 and they made their home together in the Fenway area of Boston before moving to Waltham. In 1961, Olga moved her family to Allston Drive in Walpole. In 1967 Olga took a position with the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged. She retired in 1991, after 22 and a half years of dedicated service.
Olga specialized in geriatric care for over 30 years and was a well known lecturer, speaking all over the world. As a pioneer in the geriatric field, she authored two books, "Blueprint for Living in a Long Term Facility" and "Safe Therapeutic Exercise for the Frail Elderly, An Introduction. She also began national and local programs designed for the elderly, including founding the National Geriatric Olympics and the Walpole Council on Aging. Olga taught Exercise Training for the Elderly or Disabled (EXTEND) after being sought out by the Bolingbroke Hospital Staff in England; took part int the Pre White House on Aging Conference, making recommendations for the care of the elderly in Massachusetts to the Govenor; and presented mulitple times at the Norwood Hospital Parkinson's Support Group.
In her retirement, Olga loved traveling the world on cruise ships with her husband, Tom. They also visited England on a yearly basis. She was a talented artist and enjoyed working on various arts and crafts in her home, including making dolls, painting mugs, and creating wonderful sculptures. In her later years, she began writing and practicing Tai Chi. Most of all she was devoted to her church and regularly prayed to the Blessed Mother.

Godmother of Andrea Heath.
Sister of the late Vincent Stoskus, Joanna Stoskus and Helen Heath.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Olga's Life Celebration on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 4-7 PM and Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 8-8:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Boston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Clergy Health and Retirement Trust of the Archdiocese of Boston, 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184-3839.
