Norma L. Daley

July 25, 1936 — November 23, 2017

Norma L. (Gustafson) Daley, age 81, passed away in the Norwood Hospital on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Irene (Johnson) Gustafson. She was raised in the Hyde Park area of Boston and graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1955. After graduation, Norma took a position with the First National Bank in Boston.

While working at First National, Norma met her husband to be, John W. Daley. They were married on September 25, 1962 at Most Precious Blood Church in Hyde Park. The young couple made their home initially in Norwood, where they welcomed their son, John, Jr., before moving back to the city spending a short time in Mattapan, where they welcomed their daughter, Irene. The family moved to Roslindale before finally settling into their home in Hyde Park, where Norma took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. Norma had a wonderfully large personality and kept everyone laughing with her witty comments. She was considered the cool mom to many of the children in her Lexington Avenue community, welcoming each one as her own. As her children grew up, Norma took a position driving a school bus for special needs children and received an award for her life saving actions when one of her students had a medical emergency.

Known lovingly as a force of nature, Norma loved social gatherings. She was always the life of the party and was constantly making good friends even in her later years. Norma also enjoyed reminiscing about her time spent on the beaches of Scituate watching the tide roll in and out. However most of all, Norma's life was centered around her family. After her mother passed away, she lovingly cared for her father in his home. In 1996, Norma and John moved to South Walpole to be close with their grandchildren. Norma was delighted to help care for her Danny and Erin, who lived in the same home, and loved being able to watch them grow up. She was so very proud of them.

Beloved wife of the late John W. Daley.
Loving mother of Irene L. Daley-Horgan and her husband Gerard of Walpole and John W. Daley Jr and his wife Maureen of Norfolk.
Cherished grandmother of Daniel and Erin Horgan.
Sister of the late Robert Gustafson and Donald Gustafson.
