Muriel Layton Browne

November 26, 1922 — August 28, 2011

Muriel Layton Browne age 88 years of Walpole and Marion, Massachusetts died in the Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home in Bourne on Sunday, August 28, 2011. Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 26, 1922; she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Muriel (Bernier) Layton. She graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1940 and later graduated from Saint Elizabeth's School of Nursing, Brighton, MA. She resided at the family's summer home on Planting Island in Marion, MA after moving from her home on Lewis Avenue Walpole in 1995. She was a registered nurse and worked in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts for many years.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) in the Hannah Goddard Chapter of Brookline, MA. Muriel was an avid animal lover and also leaves behind her beloved cat Honey-B.

She will be remembered for her kindness, giving, and great sense of humor. Her greatest joy was watching her family grow in her Marion home. In her earlier years she shared her husband's passion for boating on Sippican Harbor.

Beloved wife of the late Hugh W. Browne, the former owner of Fred C. Browne Ford in Walpole. Loving mother of William Hugh Browne of W. Wareham, Thomas F. Browne and his wife Kathleen of Walpole, Linda M. Browne and her husband Scott A. Stover of N. Easton, Alan J. Browne of Boston, Dianne C. Bamber and her husband Gary of Chatham & Sharon, Melanie B. Klein and her husband Norman T. of West Wareham, Pamela A. Bulis and her husband Robert of Mansfield, and Fredrick C. Browne, II and his wife Kathy of Onset. Cherished grandmother of 15, great grandmother of many, and great great grandmother of 1. Sister of the late Frederick S. Layton, MD.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church 176 Washington Street East Walpole on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 9:00 AM. Visiting hours are Friday, September 2, 2011 from 4-8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Memorial donations may be made to: Broken Tail Rescue P.O. Box 295 Worcester, MA 01614.
