Michael D. MacPhee, Jr., age 86, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Michael D. and Agnes (MacKinnon) MacPhee. He was raised in the Mission Hill area of Boston, where he graduated from Mission High School with the Class of 1953. Following his graduation, Michael enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country as a Medical Specialist. Following his honorable discharge in 1957, Michael returned home and began his career with the Boston Edison.
Michael married his beloved wife, Mary J. Powers, on June 28, 1958. The young couple initially made their home together in West Roxbury, before settling in the small suburban town of Walpole in 1964. While working full-time at the Edison, Michael returned to his education, taking night classes at Suffolk University to earn his bachelors degree. He also took courses at Bentley's School of Accounting, which allowed him to seek out various promotions within his office. Michael retired as a supervisor in 1998, after 38 years of dedicated service to the Boston Edison. In his retirement, Michael spent countless hours giving back to his community, volunteering with HESSCO's Meals on Wheels Program and the Walpole Food Pantry.
Throughout his life, Michael enjoyed staying active, whether taking a walk around town or heading out on the golf course with his friends. In addition to keeping physically active, as an avid reader, Michael enjoyed keeping his mind sharp as well. In the years following his retirement, Michael looked forward to escaping the cold of New England, spending every March on Sanibel Island in Florida. Back at home, as a devoted Boston Sports fan, Michael kept up with the hometown teams, especially the New England Patriots.
