Maureen R. McDonough

d. March 1, 2023

Maureen R. McDonough, 66, of Chattanooga, TN, died March 1, 2023 after a valiant battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her enormous courage and amazing sense of humor during her illness were inspiring to all who knew and loved her.

Moe, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was the beloved daughter of the late Jean W. McDonough and the late Daniel M. McDonough of East Walpole, MA. She was raised in East Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1974.

Moe was the loving mother of Timothy Santos and devoted grandmother of Ethan Santos, both of Chattanooga, TN. Adored and cherished sister of Daniel M. McDonough, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Harwich Port, MA, Kevin F. McDonough of New York City, NY, John D. McDonough of Stoughton, MA, and Gerard C. McDonough and his wife Michelle, of Walpole, MA.

She is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Moe was renowned for her legendary Care Packages. Chocolate chip cookies, coffee cake, zucchini bread, banana bread and other goodies flowed from her kitchen. If you were a family member, friend, or co-worker you could count on receiving something delicious from Moe. She was also a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, cheering them on year-after-year from her home in Tennessee. A high point in any summer for Moe was the annual family gathering on Cape Cod where she would sink her feet into the hot sand next to her brothers, read a book and talk and laugh all day.

The McDonough family is thankful to Moe’s team of medical professionals at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where she worked for many years. They, along with her wonderful co-workers and friends, supported and encouraged our sister throughout her illness.

While we are heartbroken by her passing, we feel blessed to have had such a fiercely loving presence in our lives.
