Maryanne L. Murray, age 94, died in Walpole, MA on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Born on January 29, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Albert and Laurina (Strack) Lamb. She graduated from Saint Agnes Academy (Indianapolis, IN) and Purdue University with a B.S. degree in in biological sciences.
Maryanne attended Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Norwood, MA and had served as a Eucharistic Minister in her former parish, Francis of Assisi in Weston, CT. Shortly before she passed, while dealing with an incurable form of cancer, she summed up her life, "God has been so good to me." Faith and family were her highest priorities.
She was a scientist at a time when there were few women in science. During WWII, she worked as a scientist at Eli Lilly producing antibiotics that were responsible for saving the lives of wounded soldiers.
For over 40 years, she was a teacher in the Catholic school systems in Cincinnati, OH, Midland Park, NJ and Wilton, CT. She loved teaching science and math.
She was the consummate mother, raising with love five children initially in Cincinnati, OH and later in Allendale, NJ and Weston, CT. And she had a keen sense of humor, which she brought to all her interactions with family and friends.
Beloved wife of the late Dr. F. Joseph Murray. Loving mother of F. Jay Murray & his wife Kathy of San Jose, CA ; Janis Sorenson and her husband Rick of Colorado Springs, CO; Maureen Adamson and her husband Richard of Walpole, MA; Mark Murray and his wife Anne of Walpole, MA; Tricia Granzier and her husband Mark of Scarborough, ME. Cherished grandmother of Bryan, Erik, Chris, Jason, Katie, Michelle, Michael, Abby, and Andrew and great grandmother of Jordan, Drew, Hudson, Teagan, Jackson, Nathan, Greyson, and Rowan. Loving sister of the late Albert Lamb and the late Rosalyn Lamb Gale.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Timothy Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood, MA on Thursday, May 3 at 10:00 am. Visiting hours and interment are private. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: the Association for Women in Science, the Walpole Community Food Pantry or charity of your choice. Arrangements by James H.
