Mary L. (McGonagle) Underwood, age 80, died in her Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Sunday, January 18, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Mary E. “Mamie” (Keenan) McGonagle. She was raised in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School with the class of 1951. Graduation ceremonies were held at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Mary was an honor student with an irresistible sense of fun; voted "most original" in her class. Her activities included, Cheerleader for the football games, Captain of the Basketball Team, Year Book Art Staff, Picture Committee, Parent-Teachers Meeting, Armistice Day Program, Fashion Show and received the "Posture Award". After high school, Mary was employed by the John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Boston for a year, after which she went to work as an operator for the New England Telephone Company in Boston. During the early fifties she moved from Charlestown to West Roxbury.
