Mary M. (Gnecco) Treen, age 86, passed away peacefully in the Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough, Massachusetts on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts on November 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Florence (Davey) Gnecco. She was raised in Norwood, Massachusetts and as a young girl attended Saint Catherine's Elementary School. Mary went on to graduate from Mission High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation, Mary took a position with Bird and Son in East Walpole, working in the office.
Mary met her husband to be, Philip R. Treen, on a blind date at the Echo in Walpole. They were married on October 3, 1954 in the Chapel of Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood, and in 1959, the young couple made their home in Walpole, Massachusetts. After welcoming her children, Mary took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. Once her youngest child was enrolled in school, Mary returned to the working world, taking a position with Mar-El Jewelry Distributors, where she worked as a member of the support staff and in the mailroom. She retired in 1990, after more than 20 years of service.
In her retirement, Mary enjoyed taking driving trips to Florida, during the winter months, to visit with her brother in West Palm Beach and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Floodstrom, in Naples. During the summer, she enjoyed spending time at her brother-in-law, Ken Treen's, cottage in Dennisport on Cape Cod. Mary was an avid sports fan and loved following all the Boston teams whether on television or on Boston Sports Radio. Most of all, Mary loved being surrounded by those she loved and truly cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren.
