Mary Carmen (Sarno) Luongo, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at her home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on October 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Amato and Nicoletta (DeAmicis) Sarno. She was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts, graduating from Somerville High School with the Class of 1948. Following her graduation, Mary took a teller's position with Harvard Trust Company, where she formed lifelong friendships. These friendships turned into "The Club" and Mary loved gathering with the girls often throughout the years.
Mary married her beloved husband, Joseph A. Luongo, Jr., on June 6, 1954, in Somerville. The young couple initially made their home in Belmont, where Mary took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. A year later, Mary and Joe moved to Reading, before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1961, where Mary fulfilled her lifelong dream of raising a big family. Mary's children were her whole world, and there was nothing that she wouldn't do for them. She was a wonderful cook, and loved preparing meals for her family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy, regularly simmering meatballs and sausages on her stove, just in case anyone who dropped in might be hungry. As her children grew up, Mary returned to the working world, taking an administrative position with BayBank in Dedham. She remained with the bank through their name change to Bank of America. Mary was truly delighted at the birth of her grandchildren; they were the light of her life. As with her children, there is nothing she wouldn't do for them, from attending their events to ensuring they were well fed whenever they were at her home in Walpole.
